Wolverine Vs Hulk

This started out as a pencil sketch on the subway home one night. I totally forgot about it,but then yesterday I scanned it into the computer and finished it off. I've been doing a lot of pen and ink brush work of late, so I thought these pencils would be perfect to ink over.

The pencils below are the about as tight as I pencil, especially if I'm working digital. Its basically just a frame work. Even when I don't work digitally if I'm inking my own work I have really loose pencils.

Finally I thought it would be fun to take a snapshot of the beginning inks. I ink on a layer over the pencils, and I usually put a layer of white in between the pencils and inks. I'll toggle the opacity on that white layer as I ink. I feel it helps me see my ink clearer as I work depending on what area I'm inking.

Overall I'm glad how it turned out. Wolverine looks psychotic and I love drawing Hulk with kinda 70s hair. More soon.

Gamera!

GAMERA ! I've always considered Gamera a bit of a chump. So I've never actually drawn him. Somewhere along the way though I've grown fonder of the turtle. In a genre ( giant monsters ) full of weirdness he sticks out like sore thumb. Total rip off, yet somehow original? Is that even possible? Whatever the answer I do like him now. His movies are bad but the concept of giant turtle that can fly like a UFO and shoot fire is cool.

I think I'll keep going with these monster. Maybe once I get 25 or so together I'll print up an art book of them?

Diabolik

One of my favorite character is the classic anti hero Diabolik featured in Italian comics. He's a master thief who is helped by his partner/lover Eva Kant. Its just a really cool comic. The movie Danger: Diabolik by Mario Bava is equally awesome. For extra awesome it has a Ennio Morricone score. Check it all out when you can.

Heres the Robin counterpart of the below Batman piece.

Batman 1966

Continuing the brush work stuff. Heres a version of Batman I draw that's based on the 66 TV show, but with some modern sensibilities. I have this idea for a comic done this way. Using the 1966 designs but in a messy indie art style with a really weird modern sci-fi/horror story. I'll post more designs soon.

MechaGodzilla

Seriously, there are fewer cooler looking monster/robots that the original MechaGodzilla.

With a lot of these illustrations, I'm trying to be looser then I tend to be. I'm really letting the brush and ink do a lot of the drawing. Not trying to control things so much. I think its giving these drawings a nice sense of energy.
